Zara is shortlisted for the Funny Women Comedy Writing Award 2021 and was a finalist in The Funny Women Comedy Shorts Award 2021.

Zara won a spot in the BBC Children's New Voice Writer Room 2021 and the ITV Comedy 50:50 Female Pilot Club. She was previously in the BBC Comedy Writers Room UK 2020 and won a runner-up prize for the David Nobbs Comedy Writing Award 2021. She was also shortlisted for the Funny Women Comedy Writing Award 2020


Zara writes screenplays and comedy shorts for TV, podcasts and radio.  She has recently been launched as a columnist for Scotland's biggest newspaper, The Scottish Sun

Zara is currently developing a sitcom with The Comedy Unit and has had two comedy shorts commissioned by BBC Studios, she plays the lead in both. The first BBC Short Stuff 'Pak Life' has amassed more than 5.5 million views. She has recently been commissioned to work with All3Media on a new project.

Zara's audio comedy short, The Khandashian House Party is Over was longlisted for BBC Writers Room Interconnected. It went on to win an award with Up Ere' Productions Isolation Shorts and Fun Fight At The OK Corona where it was produced as an audio short. Zara played the lead alongside Maddy Anholt, Sukh Ojla and Lubna Kerr.


Zara has an MLitt in Journalism with distinction. She worked for the Scottish Human Rights Commission and The Innocence Project as an Investigative Journalist. She has been freelancing for national publications for over a decade. 

As a TV producer Zara Janjua has written for ITV's This Morning & Loose Women. She has written scripts and comedy for BBC Shows, BBC Radio London and STV.

Zara is a copywriter for brands, from Virgin Holidays & Atlantic, the FA to PayPal, MasterCard, World Pride and NatWest.
